Stay with me. I started holiday work two weeks ago. Most projects I work on are for three months to six in the future. It takes time to prep marketing and advertising artwork. In my office the AC is set to ‘Arctic’ because, yes, I don’t handle the heat well, but also because I’m trying to channel sweater weather. So if your business needs something for any holiday between Halloween and New Years Eve - now is the time to talk about it with your art department. Pro-Tip Tuesday - Sharing your business card online. We've all seen it. Many of us have done it. But no one really talks about it. While it seems like a quick and simple way to share your information - posting or texting a picture of your business card, is not as helpful as you think. First, it is hard to read, the picture may be angled or blurry or there may be a glare. Even if your target market sees it, this may not grab their attention. At the very least crop the picture in so you do not see the extra space around the card. Better yet, have a digital version of the print file that you can share. This way it is clear and easy to read. That 'picture' will be consistent with the card you hand out in person and you can use it in the signature of your email too. If I have designed your business card, you know I gave you a "digital share file" for this very reason. Another great option is to type out the info and save it as a note on your phone so you can copy & paste when you need to share it. Bonus there - your website or social profile will be clickable. Making you all the easier to connect with later. On social media, I recommend posting the digital share file of your card along with the typed info. Best of both worlds. They will see your card clearly and any branding elements on there as well as be able to click on your profile or website. What I love about my job is two days are never the same! I’ve gotten a few questions lately about Barbie, so I figured I would do a post. Let’s do this folks, let’s dig in, let’s talk about Barbie. The marketing behind this film is a force to be reckoned with. As a marketing nerd I love every second of it -I really do- I think it’s fantastic (dressed in plastic)! But for me, for my branding, for myself, I say Barbie is not authentic to me. I was never a Barbie girl. I didn’t like that song back in the 90s. And I really cannot stand the color hot pink. Again this is personal. Lots of my friends and colleagues can rock pink and I support that - it’s just not for me. I have not, nor do I plan to, see the movie. And I had no intention of doing a Barbie post until I had a few clients asked me if I thought they should. So I’m going to tell all of you the same thing I told them: if you are in fact, a Barbie girl, and you want to jump into her hot pink convertible with your brand for a minute then - absolutely, go for it! But if, like me, it’s not really your jam - then don’t. 👋 Do you talk with your hands? I sometimes use this ven diagram to help visualize what is do. (I used to use a “yellow and blue make green” version but I recently recreated it in my brand colors.) This came out of a real life talking with my hands moment. I put up one hand while I said ✋“I am a photographer” then I put up my other hand and said 🤚“and a graphic designer” then I put my hands together and said, “Images by Saraphina is a company where those two services overlap”🤝 As I was saying that and gesturing with my hands - I could visualize of a ven diagram in my head. Shout Out to JB Webstudio! I met Judy while speaking at EvoBizDevo and she followed up with me right away, excited that we were both on Cape Cod. After meeting in real life for a cup of coffee, Judy asked me about head shots and I told her about telling a more complete story with images. As a web designer, she totally understood where I was coming from and that is when she asked me to photograph her and her studio space. It was so much fun! The hour flew by in a blink and she got some really great images for her marketing image library. Here are my favorites from her order. I love the coffee picture because it is what we bonded over, the images of her workspace bright and happy, the image of her working and if you look close you can see her face reflected in her laptop, and finally the image of her with her book looking out on her beautiful view lost in thought. What do you keep in your desk (or bag or car etc) that keeps you going and makes you smile? I confess I keep candies in my top desk drawer. I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. Open the top drawer, and bam, there is a treat just in case. Usually, in the afternoon stretch, I go for a quick pick-me-up. Up until this year, it was always some form of mint. This past holiday season I got a lovely gift from a friend and client that was filled with amazing, tasty treats. One of those treats was a tin of fruity candies. I saw the tin and was instantly transported back to my teenage self. I was a foreign exchange student in high school. On the first day with my homestay family in England, my homestay Mum offered me a sweet from a tin that looked just like the one in my gift basket. I had totally forgotten about these sweets even though I had one every day after school before having tea. This tin of candies ended up in my desk drawer and I had one each day while at my desk. The day I had the last one I was sad. I tried to go back to my standard mints and it was not the same. I decided I wanted to buy more of these sweets.
